Speaker: Stacey Newton BVSc, CertEM (Int Med), PhD, FRCPATH, MRCVS

Presented by Dr. Stacey A. Newton, this lecture examines the diagnostic and monitoring roles of blood proteins in equine biochemistry. Key topics include acute phase proteins (APPs), albumin and globulin interpretation, and advanced techniques such as serum protein electrophoresis. The session offers practical insights into conditions like inflammation and neoplasia, with a focus on clinical relevance.

Learning objectives

  • Incorporate protein analysis into routine equine diagnostics
  • Use serum protein electrophoresis to assess disease processes
  • Apply APPs (e.g., serum amyloid A, fibrinogen) in inflammation monitoring
  • Interpret biochemistry profiles for diagnostic clarity
  • Understand the physiological role of blood proteins in equine health
