NationWide Laboratories is delighted to bring the latest in DNA and disease risk profiling techniques to UK veterinary practices, powered by Orivet™.
What is the DNA profiling service from NationWide Laboratories?
DNA profiling enables you to predict the likelihood of disease for your client’s pet by analysing the animal’s genome and lifestyle. This allows you to tailor a lifetime of veterinary care in line with an individual patient’s potential risk factors.
Animals of all ages, but ideally puppies and kittens, can be genetically screened for hereditary diseases and traits buried within their DNA (Orivet™ Health Screen).
Identifying risks will enable you to instigate specific monitoring programmes or procedures to either prevent development of disease or ensure early diagnosis and treatment.
The genetic information, along with knowledge of diet, lifestyle, breed, age, weight, gender and environment are used to rank risks based on prevalence and severity and develop a personalised health and wellness plan (Orivet™ LifePlan), which is appropriate for the lifetime of the pet.
What DNA profiling tests are available?
Dog Breed Profile – The test helps to identify the dog’s breed make up.
Dog Breed Profile & Life Plan – Perfect for mixed breeds. Find out the pet’s breed make up, identify potential health risks and schedule recommended veterinary interventions over the entire lifetime of the animal.
Dog Health Screen & Life Plan – Perfect for pure breeds and dogs with known breed makeup. The dog’s DNA is screened for genetic diseases and physical traits and the owner receives a schedule of recommended veterinary interventions over the entire lifetime of their pet.

Personalised medicine helps you to deliver better standards of veterinary care through improved prevention, early detection, and evidence-based treatment. Pet owners value their pet being treated as the unique individual that they are and become invested in monitoring their pet’s health, increasing their visits to the practice over the pet’s lifetime and improving their compliance with treatment plans.
